windowless study XLIX

After a relatively quiet yesterday Carmichael has shown his moonstruck mush again. This morning he came out holding a Rubik’s cube, which he nailed to the oak tree before lobbing the hammer through his bathroom window. Glass sprayed in all directions and a small shard embedded itself in his left cheek. He didn’t seem to notice though. Lying down in the dirt beneath the tree he formed a perfect circle with his ancient body and stayed absolutely still for several hours. During this time the shadow of the tree tiptoed over him in an arc-like fashion and a stray cat gave birth to seventeen kittens, all of which survived. At one point a crow even approached and began pecking at the dry blood on Carmichael’s cheek. Even this didn’t disturb the crazy old man’s supine geometry. It was only when the sun was long gone that Carmichael finally got to his feet and retreated back indoors. The Rubik’s cube stayed put.
